Coton de Tulear eye drainage - need help

by Chris

I find my Coton de Tulear has this inner eye drainage that leaves a brown stain on the skin, and after a few days of not cleaning, it smells ....I have seen 2 other Cotons in pics with these stains. Can you help?

Coton eyes
by: Gale

Hi Chris

I'm not sure if you're asking about the specific eye problem or what to do about the staining and smell. According to very limited info available on Coton health, there have been some instances of eye problems with the Coton (but not significant numbers to cause concern; just a caution for proper breeding).

Obviously, the first thing is to always check with a Vet. You have to know what's causing the problem so you know how to treat it. Eye discharge/drainage/tears can be caused by any number of things including allergies, conjunctivitis, and yeast infections - all of which would be treated differently.

Here's what some of our visitors had to say about how they handle staining on the coat.

Hope this answered your question. If not, maybe you'll hear from some of our visitors who have had similar Coton eye problems.
