Choosing a small breed dog?

Are you choosing a small breed dog? Is the Coton de Tulear right for you and your family?

Are you choosing a:

All of the above? - Then the coton de tulear may be the dog for you.

Choosing a small breed dog was tough for me since I’ve never met a dog I didn’t like. I love ALL dogs so it was hard to decide on the right breed for me. I can’t say that the Coton de Tulear is necessarily better than any other dog (pretty close though). You really have to take in mind your lifestyle and the reasons you have for choosing a small breed dog.

When I made a list of all the things I was looking for in a dog, my dog Luc fit like a glove. Putting aside his overall cuteness factor (I know it’s awful hard to resist that), I was looking for a small breed dog since I live in a townhouse, a smart dog that would train easily, a companion dog, and a friendly dog that would get along with children, adults and other animals, especially my somewhat aloof cat, Lila. choosing a small breed dog I feel very fortunate to have found this small rare breed dog that is basically everything I was looking for and so much more. Luc is so happy, affectionate and playful.

He’s also very adaptable. He’s happy getting lots of exercise and he’s also content lying at my feet when I have my work to do. He’s protective of me when someone he doesn’t know comes in the house, but he’s not aggressive and would never hurt anyone.

choosing a small breed dog Basically, he’s the perfect dog for me. Plus as an extra added bonus he doesn't shed, he’s not yappy, he stands on his hind legs to give great hugs (but watch out – he uses this trick to “steal” anything he finds interesting on countertops and tables), he cocks his head and listens to you when you tell him about your day.

Oh boy, I can go on and on and on ……

When you're choosing a dog, the bottom line is you have to find what characteristics make up your “perfect dog”. Check out this matrix to help you determine if the Coton de Tulear is the right dog for you.
