Can I feed beef to my Coton de Tulear?

by MJ

I have a question...Why are we not to feed beef or horse meat to a Coton de Tulear? I don't seem to find the answer anywhere. Can anyone out there help me understand why not. I know with my little one she can't have wheat or corn because she bites at herself something awful - It also causes her to have ear troubles......

Beef for Cotons?
by: Gale

I'm not sure why you would want to feed horse meat to your Coton. I think it's actually illegal in the U.S. to use horse meat in pet foods, but there are low quality dog foods that can be found with animal by-products that could in fact contain horse meat (and all kinds of other things you probably don't want to know about).

As far as Cotons eating beef, I'm not sure what context you were told to eliminate beef, but since your dog seems to have allergy issues I'm sure that's the reason. Almost 70% of pets who have allergies are allergic to meat, dairy or wheat so replacing beef with another protein such as turkey, duck, and venison can help reduce allergies.
