my 17 month old Coton barks when anyone walks past the house but outside he is just wonderful, never barks, plays with everyone. How do I stop this.

Thanks for the responses. Trying to teach him the quiet command. Sometimes he is just really stubborn and wants to do what he wants to do.

BARKING NEW
by: SHErry candie cotton

yes I have the same problem, when convient I will go to door and tell them good job and they quit or think they have run these intruders away-lol and will be quiet. I am in a new neighborhood with lots of joggers and dog walkers so its almost constant.

Sometimes I just shut the front door so they no longer see these "imaginary bad joggers" or just ignore them. It gives mine some excitement so its not really an issue.

Early training if possible would be good idea, mine are 5 and 7 and like yours perfect on leash with no barking at all. They are just super protectors and need to alert me to all these people in front.

Love this breed and so fortunate to have them. Good luck with yours and love the pic----super adorable!

Barking NEW

Starting out their a good training free videos @ YouTube.com/ZakGeorge.

Next look @ it like this. Every time someone walks by your house ur dog barks to say stay away. As the person conts. Walking that little cartoon bubble u see it your dog saying "yep I did that mom" "I chased them away".

To a dog it's completely different act then when u & they go for a walk. So ur dog must no the quiet command. Then if u can borrow one of ur grandkids or kids to walk bAck & forth so u can stay inside & give quiet command & treat. You practice.

Cotons r pretty smart but to ask a dog to go against instinct the key really is repetition as practice.
