Bald patch on side of neck.

by Linda Prior
(Suffolk UK )

Our ten month coton has suddenly developed a complete bald patch on the side of her neck about the size of a small jam jar lid.

She appears in good health, energetic, sleeping OK, no problems with diet , appetite etc and certainly has not been scratching or worrying at the area before or now.

The skin appears completely normal looking. No redness, scales, dry etc. All there seems to be is a small bump under the skin , where I think she had her ranies injection at twelve weeks and a much smaller pimple size bump which could be her microchip?

She was spayed a couple of months ago with no problems , but I think she had some further procedural injections given in that site . Could her bald spot be some sort of reaction to this?
There was certainly no reactive evidence at the time.

I also recall her rubbing her neck along into something ( usually dead or vile) or other while out walking , just days before I discovered the bald patch.

I am currently treating the area with an anti fungal cream and shampoo just in case it is fungal , but has anyone else had this experience?

Ironically my husband is a Vet, but like all husbands who do something, he rarely takes much notice of his own when something is up! He just days to treat it as we are as there are no other symptoms etc. Of course I would rather hear what others may suggest!

My mom said it sounds like ringworm. She was told by the government agency Vet to use iodine (for agriculture animals).

I read just a few weeks ago of the skin & hair reactions of vaccination shots. The advice was to be in the Vet's room and note where the needle was applied as symptoms may surface weeks, months or years later at that needle location.

Rabbi shots are quite toxic. Apparently our little Coton boys get the same size dosage as a big dog and 1/2 the dosage size of a horse. The dosages don't come in smaller sizes the article reported. Here's the article and VIDEO:
http://www.dogs4dogs.com/truth4dogs.html

I'd be concerned if hair quits growing, or falls off and there is a corresponding lump beneath the skin at the site of the rabbi shot and/or recent sugery injections. A liver function test and blood analysis may be prudent. At best it may sooth your concerns.

Last May for my dog, as to what started as a small bump under the skin, became a cyst burst and blood excreted.

The only symptom was constipation. One day he pooped so hard he burst the little cyst located just behind his right front shoulder. The Vet squeezed puss out. The Vet wasn't too concerned. Antibiotics was administered.

That was May 1, 2014. 27 days later my perfectly healthy 8 year old dog died of liver failure. His blood results were through the roof. I keep asking myself what I could have done better on May 1st, 27 days earlier.

The dog had just come from the groomers in late April. He always reacted to the flea powder and my x-husband just wouldn't comply to my concerns. The groomer shaved the dog's hair way too short that day, and my best guess is potentially nicked the skin, or a bump, the blood became infected by the toxic flea powder (that the dog was allergic to). The liver couldn't keep up with the detoxification of the poisions that entered the blood? I'm not a Vet.

A male mind thinks with different hormonal based logic. A Vet Doctor would be too stressed out if he worried about what-if's before the signs appeared. The body can powerfully heal its injuries. A hair reaction may be temporary. Surgery streses the body. Hair falls out. It may be that simple.

My prior dog was Winston, a professional actor and model. From doggie heaven he sent me CoCo who was born June 18, 2014. The day before CoCo arrived into my life a series of golden white light rays appeared. I wasn't looking for a dog that day.

I needed to read your post today. My decision is not to neuter CoCo. He's cuddled beside me in this moment and whispered "thank you".

Phoebe's mystery bald patch NEW
by: Linda

Thank you Terry, it is all certainly a mystery, but as your Vet said, my husband says that there seems nothing to really concern us. No redness, irritation , nothing. Just a bare patch as smooth as baby's bottom! So we just continue to apply topical anti fungal and anti bacterial cream and shampoo.

This is our first Coton. We first met them here in France where we have a home as well as the UK. They are simply adorable little dogs and she is adored by everyone who meets her. But she knows it !

We find her stubborn and very opinionated, but she is slowly getting to know when we have all heard enough!

She loves walks and generally being outside and the muddier and dirtier she can become the better! She is also an avid digger ...

She is however an excellent traveller ( 14 hr journey between UK / French home) and very good at night.

She does have some issues with separation anxiety. Another first for us, but is gradually beginning to realise that she is not left as an orphan every time we are out of sight!

As you say they are great little dogs and we certainly would not change her for the world !

Bald Patch NEW
by: Terry and Chloe

Hi, our Chloe (now 4 years old). Had a patch appear out of the blue it seemed about 6 months ago. Our vet had many reasons what could have caused it but not of them were anything to worry about. She did give us a spray called Genta Spray to use until the area was healed. It worked, within 3 days she was all healed up. As for the little bumps, Chole also gets them from time to time. According to our Vet, they are harmless and are environmental. Chloe's come and go but when they reach a certain size they fall off. If they get enlarged (which they haven't yet) we were instructed to bring her into the Vet's office. I hope this helps. Good luck with your little one. Coton's are the best dogs there are.
