Are reddish eyes anything for concern?

Our Coton has reddish looking eye lenses. She has brownish discoloration around her eyes. I do not know if the two things are related. The vet checked her tear ducts and they are open. Abby is almost 7 months old.

red eyes NEW
by: Marcia

Our Coton used to get red or brown stuff coming out of her eyes but her breeder said to give plain non fat yogurt with her kibble every morning. just about a tsp. plus we switched from reg kibble to grain free on everything she eats including dog treats. works like a charm. No reg dog biscuits or food from the table that is not grain free.Actually stopped giving her food from the table and maybe sometime gave her just peas. I have noticed more dog treats that are grain free. Always on the dog food or treats at the store.she has beautiful white hair around her eyes. if it starts it means someone gave her a reg dog biscuit.

Reddish eyes? NEW
by: I ris

It may be the dog food or treats you're feeding your dog,
Much of it is colored to look appealing to us humans like a rich brown or red color, that gets that way by using red beet powder, and as you know if you eat beets, the juice leaves a red stain. In fact any coloring will do that.
I use cotton cosmetic pads soaked in lukewarm water the gently wipe away the dirt and goopy eye stuff from Tuffusbfaceand around his eyes. I use a clean pad for each eye and throw away, never re use them.
You may also want to discontinue giving your dog any colored treats and find a natural healthier dog food that has no added coloring.
Good luck.
