Are cotons prone to bladder infections

My female Coton de Tulear puppy (now 8 months old) was treated for a bladder infection about 6 weeks ago. I noticed a dark staining on her vaginal area again and am wondering if I need to take her to the Vet again.

Funny, after I wrote on this blog yesterday, I took my Lizzie to the Vet today regarding her injured leg and the vet noticed her stained area by her vagina and said she has vaginitis, now on antibiotics. So take her to the vet.

According to the CTCA book, bladder infections are common in female Cotons. The good news is that it should be easily treated with antibiotics - so yes, I'd say call the Vet again.

Interesting you write as I have a 14 week old (had 3 weeks now) that I asked the vet to check for a UTI as we're having difficulty housebreaking. We take her outside and she'll squat a couple times during same outing, not sure if that's normal? Vet said she had a slight hint of infection and put her on antibiotics, despite being 3 days on meds, not really seeing a change. In regard to housebreaking, she'll go all night (9-5) in her crate not a whimper, yet during the day she seems to want to use the potty pad despite being let out every 3-4 hours. I'd like to get rid of that puppy pad because I'm afraid that's hindering the housebreaking process too. While she does great with in in a long-term confinement area when I let her out to join the family she thinks the carpeted areas of the house are one big potty pad -- vet said the potty pad increased housetraining by a year and a half for her; thus not a big fan of it. It's been so long since having a puppy I'm a tad frustrated that she'll ever be housetrained.

She is kind of young, but could she have had a heat. My one Coton had a heat and we never even knew it, doc says it is just a few drops. Only her nipples, which now protrude a TINY bit, was the tip off. We had her spade right after that. My other Coton we had spade very early and her little nipples are flat. Take her in just in case. She is your baby.
