Are coton de tulear dogs more sensitive to anesthesia?

My coton de tulear is the first coton my vet has ever treated. While attempting to have my dog neutered, he had a seizure under the anesthesia and the process was reversed. Could the anesthesia have caused the seizure, or is there reason for concern?

Pretest
by: vh

I am 58 so I have fixed about 5 dogs. They were not all the same vets but they all asked the same ques. as to if I wanted a pre test as to the weight compared to the anesthetic. This is a separate blood test charge from the price of the spade or neuter.

If the vet hospital did not give u this option run do not walk to find a new vet immediatly.

Knocking out a Coton
by: MR

There is a pre-treatment test the vet should be able to do to be sure your Coton won't react to the anesthetic. They usually do it for older dogs, but you should be able to request it like I did. I heard from the breeder that one in my dogs litter aspirated while under and died; since then I have been absolutely paranoid about having her knocked out for any reason. I finally got her teeth cleaned last year and ordered the pre-test, she did fine. The drug my vet used was actually propyfl. That's right, the drug Michael Jackson OD'ed on. He uses just enough of a dose to knock them out and get the mask on them, then a light gas that wears off a few minutes after they take the mask off them. The vet says they were the same drugs his dentist uses on him, and he decided to use them at the clinic when he woke up from dental surgery hungry; good stuff. There ARE other products, shop it around if your vet isn't using the best.

SEIZURE
by: SHERRY/COTTON

WE LIVE IN A SMALL TOWN AND COTTON WAS THE FIRST COTON MY VET HAD EVER SEEN. IN FACT THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THE BREED. SORT OF MADE ME UNCOMFORTABLE BUT I HAD HER SPAYED AND SHE DID JUST FINE. DID YOU ASK YOUR VET IF THIS HAPPENS WITH OTHER SMALL DOGS, PERHAPS HE WAS GIVEN A LITTLE TOO MUCH ANESTHESIA.

WE HOPE HE IS DOING WELL NOW AND ARE YOU GOING TO TAKE HIM SOMEWHERE ELSE TO BE NEUTERED?? HOPE SOMEONE OUT THERE CAN BE OF MORE HELP TO YOU.

GOOD LUCK WITH HIM!!!!

PLEASE KEEP US POSTED ON HIS CONDITION.
